Below you will find an explanation of some of the treatments we offer, starting with our all important Dental Health Examination.
At every Dental Health Examination, we assess your mouth health in 14 different areas, including checking your risks of future gum inflammation and tooth decay, carrying out an oral cancer screen and making recommendations on how you can care for your teeth at home.
We have solutions for chipped, stained, uneven, broken, crooked or missing teeth. Treatments might include tooth whitening, or tooth straightening, crowns or veneers to mask unsightly teeth, or a little cosmetic bonding – a reshaping of the teeth with natural tooth colour filling material. Some of these methods of improving smiles are very ‘minimal’ and cost much less than you might think! Dentures and implants can also be provided for cosmetic reasons and we provide both here.
Teeth whitening is one of the easiest ways to improve your appearance. Whiter teeth can boost your confidence and self-esteem. Over the years, teeth become stained for a variety of reasons:
- drinking coffee, tea or red wine
- eating staining foods such as curries and various berries
- smoking
All of these eventually take a toll on teeth. The results are dull, yellow coloured teeth. Most teeth will benefit from tooth whitening, which is a proven and effective way to brighten stained or discoloured teeth. The procedure is safe, simple, and more affordable than ever. For these reasons and more, whitening has become very popular.
We try and avoid fillings but sometimes they are essential to prevent teeth from further decay. We use different kinds of filling materials and where possible will always recommend white composite fillings which match the colour of tooth enamel.
Tooth straightening is available here and if you want to improve your smile, why not make an appointment to find out what your options are. The initial consultation for adult orthodontics is free. Our specialist offers a wide range of treatments for adults including invisible options such as Invisalign and lingual ( behind the teeth) braces. We also offer Fastbraces for adults. This is a new system which involves small triangular brackets on the front of the teeth. Orthodontics for young people and teenagers is also available.
Root canal treatment is required to treat inflammation or infection inside a tooth usually caused by decay but sometimes by trauma. Unless the inflammation or infection are removed the patient will suffer from pain or an abscess or both.
The treatment cleans out the damaged tissue and refills and reseals the roots of the teeth, preventing future infection and damage. Because the tooth will be fragile we recommend it is crowned afterwards to maintain strength.
Crowns, veneers and bridges are all classified as dental restorations and made in dental laboratories to the prescription of our dentists. The long term success of crowns and veneers depends on the skill of the technician as well as very careful planning and placement by the dentist.
- A crown is a tooth-shaped ‘cap’ that fits over your tooth to give total coverage; crowns are usually recommended to strengthen and protect the tooth below. A crown is also placed over a dental implant.
- When you have a missing tooth, a crown is used to hold a bridge in place. The tooth or teeth next to the gap are prepared for a crown which is connected to a piece of metal known as a ‘bridge’. This sits behind the tooth and holds a replacement tooth in place.
- Veneers are thin facings that protect or improve the appearance of the teeth.
Dentist Brenda Barrett is trained to provide wrinkle reduction injections to help soften the lines on the brow and around the eyes. The treatment offered is also used to help deal with excessive sweating.
